Girl in the Basement

The thriller is a genre of rhythm, not of subject. What separates it from crime is its promise: not understanding what happened, but knowing what is about to. The best-rated set a threat inside ten minutes and never let it go. It is the safest choice when you want to be kept awake without having to think, and the worst for an evening you expect to fall asleep through.
Disney+ is the most predictable catalog of the set, and that is its strength: what goes in rarely comes out. Lists about it therefore age better than the others. Its depth is real in animation and family, much thinner elsewhere — a "thriller on Disney+" page will always be shorter than an "animation on Disney+" page, and the catalog decides that, not the selection.
